History
Deadline are one of South Australia’s most prolific premium quality online software and website development companies with wide ranging experience across many industry sectors and organisation types including defence, government (local, state and federal), retail, manufacturing, mining and technology, financial services, travel and tourism, hospitality, not for profit and the building industry.
We are now entering our 16th year of operation, employ 13 staff and our growth can be likened to none-other than the web-technology we produce.
But how did it all start? An entreprenuerial parternship between two young adults (who were not yet married), Kate and Sean Heylen.
On 23rd May 1996, Sean and Kate started Deadline Media, Publishing & Design. The business offered clients design and publishing, and website development using programming script that Kate first learnt in her HTML 1.0 programming course.
The photograph above was taken by The Messenger when they first started out.
Kate remembers that the two were house-sitting for some of her parents friends and had to submit one of their first proposals to the government and literally used scissors and sticky tape to make a letterhead and then photocopy it so it looked real!
Once they won that project, they moved out to a rental unit in Kensington, which is where the business really began to grow. Next they bought a house in Kent Town and the two front offices were converted to offices. After hiring their first staff member, they realised they needed a real office as opposed to a home office, so they took some space in a warehouse in Kent Town. The business then moved into Adelaide's CBD to a building on the corner of Hindley Street and King William Street.
In July 2007, the premises at 17 Chesser Street was purchased and the interior re-designed, and is where you can find us today. In this same year, the business name Deadline Media was changed to Deadline.
